FAQ

Are my images suitable for measurement?

Scale

To perform measurements, the images must be captured without distortion. Ideally, the imaging scale is known, or the image contains a feature of known length that allows the scale to be determined graphically.

How accurate are the measurements?

Measurements are performed with subpixel accuracy. The achievable accuracy therefore depends on the optical resolution of the images.

Unfavorable capture conditions can lead to optical distortions with some cameras. To check for this effect, record parallel lines or grid patterns.

What can be used as a scale reference when capturing an image?

In principle, any flat object of known size can be used as a scale reference. For example, with laser printers you can easily print reference cards with high accuracy (at 300 dpi, approximately 0.1 mm accuracy).

In industrial contexts, gauge blocks (often simply called end gauges) are typically used. They are available commercially as individual items from about €30.00. The accuracy of higher-grade gauge blocks can reach approximately 0.001 mm.

What hardware requirements does the software have?

The software runs on standard PCs with current Windows versions starting from Windows 10. We recommend a modern computer system and at least 4 GB of RAM. A high screen resolution is beneficial; with less than 1024 × 768 pixels, measurement becomes difficult. The main window is scalable and supports large screen resolutions.

Which image formats are supported?

The current version supports the most common image formats (maximum side length 8192 pixels):

  • BMP (Windows Bitmap)
  • JPG (JPEG)
  • PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
  • TIF (Tagged Image File Format) 8-bit grayscale images or 24-bit RGB
  • PDF (page by page)
  • DXF (subset)

How can I get help if I run into problems?

From the delivery date, you receive free installation support by email for 30 days. Minor updates are provided free of charge.

Can Measure be integrated into an image capture system?

System manufacturers and developers can request an interface description that explains the options for passing file names.

What data is transmitted online?

Each time the program starts, Measure checks whether a new version is available on the update server. Only the IP address, date, and time of the request are recorded.
The automatic update check can be disabled in the program settings.
